material turn out so delightful, you know you are in the presence of a
brilliant director, which Frank Capra proved to be in this effort and in subsequent films.
A love-hate relationship perfectly textured and
developed. Stands to this day (despite dated styles) as a model on how
to get it right. In fact, if they “could make ‘em like this anymore” it
would still be a tremendous success today.
Colbert and Gable won Oscars and you will likely
agree. Speaking of deserved oscars, this seventy year old film also
holds the distinction as one of three movies ever to sweep all the major
academy award categories.
